The tide of time wait for no man (in soccer)

Monday, May 30th, 2005

To all Manchester United fans, I just read that Diego Forlan became the top scorer in La Liga with 25 goals, while the past season Ruud van Nistelrooy only has 6 goals to his name. How much times have changed in just 1 year. Who knows what will happen next year now that Man Utd has become american club?

New flatmate

Saturday, May 21st, 2005

I’ve got a new flatmate. His name is Agung. He just moved to Sydney from Melbourne last saturday. He is actually an old-timer. He was already in Sydney before I came here, and we were in the choir before he left Sydney in 1996/7. So the number of people in my flat is back to 3, a good number eventhough sharing the balcony to dry our clothes will be a challenge.

Expired email

Thursday, May 19th, 2005

I’ve finished my uni at UNSW around four years ago. Somehow my student email is still working all this time. Finally got caught out, and the email hans at student.unsw.edu.au will be no more.

Instead I registered for a permanent one: hans at UNSWAlumni.com

But I think most of you use my halim.org email anyway.

Costly Banking

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

Using banks’ services are quite costly in Australia. Internet banking is supposed to help in keeping the cost down, but for some banks, not for long.

According to this article from SMH, Commonwealth bank will start charging 50c per transaction once the free transactions are used up (only allowed 3 free ones per month). Ouch.

I mainly use HSBC nowadays, which is quite low-cost for general banking with lots of free transactions. But I still have joint accounts at CBA. Got to close them soon.

Vacuum elevator

It’s not 666

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

This news claim that the number of the beast is actually not 666, but 616. Not sure how true this is, but maybe we have been watching out for the wrong number :)
